Ugly Duckling Activity

Over the last 2 weeks in the Primary 1 class that meets at 2:00 on Tuesday and Thursday we have been using the story of the Ugly Duckling to practice pronunciation and our listening and speaking skills. 

Durant les dues últimes setmanes, a la classe d'anglès extraescolar de 1r de Primària que es troben els dimarts i dijous a les 2:00, els alumnes han estat utilitzant la història de l'Aneguet Lleig per a practicar la pronunciació i la destresa oral.

Stage 1: The first stage was for the students to become familiar with the story and we did this firstly by watching a silent video of the story. Then we listened to a song about the Ugly Duckling that introduced some key phrases that the students then practiced saying. 

Primer pas: El primer pas va ser per a què els estudiants es familiaritzessin amb la història i primer, ho van fer mirant un vídeo mut de la història. Després, van escoltar una cançó sobre la història de l'Aneguet lleig en la que van introduir algunes frases clau que els estudiants van practicar, després, de manera oral.

Stage 2: For the second stage the students listened to the teacher telling the story and using flash cards to support their understanding. Having listened to the story the students were encouraged to repeat the story with the teacher using a set of vocabulary cards to support their storytelling. 

Segon pas: Per al segon pas, els estudiants van escoltar al professor explicant la història i utilitzant targetes amb dibuixos per a donar suport a la seva comprensió. Després d'escoltar la història, els estudiants van ser encoratjats per a repetir la història amb el professor, i utilitzant un set de targetes de vocabulari per a donar suport a l'explicació de la història.

Stage 3: At the third stage the teacher utilised a set of text and picture cards to retell a shorter version of the story. Having listened to the teacher retelling this shortened version the students had to then put the text and picture cards in the correct sequence.

Tercer pas: al tercer par, la professora va utilitzar un set de targetes amb text i dibuixos per a re-explicar una versió més curta de la història. Després d'escoltar a la professora explicant la versió curta, els estudiants van haver de posar el text i els dibuixos en l'ordre correcte de la seqüència.

Stage 4: For the fourth stage students were provided with two sets of cards – pictures and text - used at stage 3. These cards were in random order and the students had the listen to the teacher and identify either the picture or text card that matched what they had heard. This was activity was then repeated with the students having to locate the matching text or picture card from the cards that had been distributed on the tables in the classroom. 

Quart pas: per al quart pas, se'ls hi va donar dos sets de targetes -dibuixos i text - utilitzats al pas 3. Aquestes targetes estaven desorganitzades, i en els estudiants van haver d'escoltar el professor i identificar o bé la targeta amb el dibuix o amb el text que es relacionés amb allò que escoltaven. Aquesta activitat va ser repetida amb els estudiants havent de identificar les targetes relacionades amb text o dibuixos, de les targetes que havien estat distribuïdes per les taules de la classe.

Stage 5: For stage 5, having familiarised themselves with the story through the activities in earlier stages the students then began an activity to create their own Ugly Duckling Storybook. Each student was provided with a set of pictures and text and their task was to (a) fill in the blanks in the text (b) match the pictures with the text (c) cut and paste the pictures and text in the correct sequence into their own story book.

Cinquè pas: per al cinquè pas, i havent-se familiaritzat amb la història dels passos anteriors, els estudiants van començar una activitat, crear els seu propi conte de l'Aneguet Lleig. A cada alumne se li va donar un set de dibuixos i text, i la seva tasca era (A) omplir els buits del text, (B) relacionar els dibuixos amb el text, i (C) retallar i enganxar els dibuixos i el text en la seqüència correcte dins al seu propi conte.

Stage 6: Having created their own Ugly Duckling Storybook the students at stage 6 were required to tell the story.

Sisè pas: una vegada creats els seus propis contes de l'Aneguet Lleig, els estudiants van explicar la història al pas 6.

Here is a picture of the children telling the story using the masks they had made to identify the different characters.

The focus was on pronunciation, in particular on the following: 

L'enfocament era en pronunciació, i en particular en els següents sons:

· “u” sound in “duck” and “ugly” 

El so de la "u" a "duck" i "ugly".

· “g” sound in “get” 

El so de la "g" a "get".

· “h” sound in “hatch” and “here”

El so de la "h" a "hatch" i "here".

 

· “ow” sound in "town"

El so de la "ow" a "town".

The students practiced the correct pronunciation of these words as they told their story of the Ugly Duckling – and then we made this video:

Els alumnes van practicar la pronunciació correcta de les següents paraules mentre explicaven la seva història de l'Aneguet Lleig - i després van fer el següent vídeo.

Carnival activity

Children in the Primary 3 and 4 Monday and Wednesday class have been learning about adjectives and adverbs and we used the opportunity of Carnival to practice using them. The first stage was to identify Carnival related vocabulary and we did this as a whole class activity – miming some of words to reinforce memory (for example band, music, parade, walk, march). The children then worked in three groups, “Horses”, “Dogs” and “Rabbits” to create their own pictures of Carnival using the vocabulary that we had identified.

Els nens de 3r i 4t de primària del grup de dilluns i dimecres han estat aprenent els adjectius i els adverbis, i han utilitzat l'oportunitat de Carnaval per a practicar-ne l'ús. El primer pas va ser identificar el vocabulari relacionat amb Carnaval i ho van fer a través d'una activitat de tota la classe- fent mímica amb algunes paraules per a reforçar la memòria (per exemple: banda, música, rua, passeig, marxa). Aleshores, els nens van treballar en tres grups: "els Cavalls", "els Gossos" i "els Conills" per a crear els seus dibuixos de Carnaval utilitzant el vocabulari que havien identificat prèviament.

For the second stage, as whole class activity, the children identified appropriate adjectives and adverbs to describe Carnival. Then, because Carnival had already happened we used the opportunity to learn about using the past tense. 

Per al segon pas, i com a activitat de grup-classe, els alumnes van identificar els adjectius i adverbis apropiats per a descriure el Carnaval. Aleshores, i ja que el Carnaval ja havia passat, van utilitzar l'oportunitat per aprendre a utilitzar el passat.

For the third stage the children worked in their groups and wrote descriptions of their pictures.

Per al tercer pas, els alumnes van treballar en grups i van escriure descripcions dels seus dibuixos.

“It was in Carnival. The float was decorated with flowers and butterflies and people danced and wore costumes and masks. The band wore costumes too. They sang a song. The queen wore a purple and blue costume. All the people saw the parade and they said it was exciting”.

"Va ser Carnaval. La carrossa estava decorada amb flors i papallones i gent ballant i que portaven disfresses i màscares. La banda també portava disfresses. Ells cantaven una cançó. La reina portava una disfressa lila i blava. Tota la gent va veure la rua i van dir que era fascinant."

The animals: a short story

Our P4 and P5 students are working on the animals, and last week they listened to a short story called What do you see? In it, they saw and imitated different animals, as we can see in the video. They had a great time!

Els nostres estudiants de P4 i P5 estan treballant els animals, per això la setmana passada van escoltar el conte Què veus? En ell van veure i imitar diferents animals, tal i com podem veure al vídeo. S'ho van passar molt bé!

Christmas Memory Book

The first week after Christmas, our 3rd and 4th primary students from the group of Tuesdays and Thursdays from 14 to 15h, and our 5th and 6th of primary students from the group of Mondays and Wednesdays from 17 to 18h have created their own Christmas Memory Book explaining their best moment of these holidays!

La primera setmana després de les vacances de nadal, els nostres alumnes de 3r i 4t de primària del grup de dimarts i dijous de 14 a 15h, i els alumnes de 5è i 6è de primària del grup de dilluns i dimecres de 17 a 18h han creat el seu propi Llibre de Memòries de Nadal, on han explicat el seu millor moment d'aquestes vacances!

Christmas Activities

Our 3rd and 4th primary students, from the Tuesday-Thursday 14-15h's group, created their own Christmas decorations!

Els nostres alumnes de 3r i 4t de primària del grup de dimarts i dijous de 14 a 15h van crear les seves propies decoracions de nadal!

Our 5th and 6th primary students, from the Monday-Wednesday 17-18h's group, listened to a famous Christmas song and filled in the missing words. They did it really well!

Els nostres alumnes de 5è i 6è de primària del grup de dilluns i dimecres de 17 a 18h van escoltar una cançó de nadal famosa i van omplir els buits amb les paraules que hi faltaven. Ho van fer molt bé!

                                         

Then we all sang another carol altogether!

Christmas Carol

Our group of students of 3rd and 4th of Primary from Monday-Wednesday from 17 to 18h also prepared a Christmas Carol before Christmas and after rehearsing it, together with a little dance, here we have the result!

El nostre grup d'alumnes de 3r i 4t de primària del grup de Dilluns i Dimecres de 17 a 18h també va preparar una nadala durant la setmana abans de nadal. Després d'assajar-la, juntament amb un petit ball, aquí tenim el resultat!

The 12 days of Christmas

Our students from 3rd and 4th of Primary from the Monday-Wednesday 14-15h's group were learning a traditional Christmas Carol during the last week before Christmas holidays called The 12 Days of Christmas. This involved learning some new vocabulary, but in particular focused on pronunciation, especially the "i" sound in "piper", the "u" sound in "drummer" and the "r" sound in "bird". They practised with a card game and with a worksheet, and after a rehearsal here we have the result!

Els nostres alumnes de 3r i 4t de primària del grup de dilluns i dimecres de 14 a 15h van aprendre una nadala tradicional anglesa, The 12 Days of Christmas, durant la última setmana abans de les vacances de Nadal. Aquesta activitat no només incloïa cantar una cançó, sinó aprendre i treballar nou vocabulari, i en particular, estava enfocada en la pronunciació, especialment, del so de la "i" en la paraula "piper", el so de la "u" en la paraula "drummer" i el so de la "r" en la paraula "bird". Els alumnes van practicar amb un joc de cartes i amb una fitxa, i després de l'assaig, aquí tenim el resultat!

It's Halloween!

Today, our students from P4 an P5 have discovered the English tradition of Halloween. They have learned some  new vocabulary and made a scary spider to decorate their houses for this Holiday. Look how happy they are!

Avui els alumnes de P4 i P5 han descobert la trradició anglesa de Halloween. Han après nou vocabulari i han fet una aranya esgarrifosa per a decorar les seves cases per aquesta festa. Mireu què contents estan!

Elmer the elephant

Last week, our students in P4 and P5 watched and listened to the tale Elmer the elephant. They painted new friends for him using and learning all the different colours. They were very happy with the results!

La setmana passada els nostres alumnes de P4 i P5 van veure i escoltar el conte de Elmer the elephant. A més a més, van pintar nous amics per a ell, tot utilitzant i aprenent els diferents colors. Al final estaven molt contents amb els resultats!

Els alumnes de primària podran preparar-se per als diferents nivells de l'examen oral de Trinity, així com també aquells alumnes de Secundària i Postobligatoris que hi estiguin interessats. , oferim grups de preparació per als exàmens oficials del nivell FCE (First Certificate)

A més a més, per a Secundària i Postobligatoris també comptem amb grups de preparació per als exàmens oficials de Cambridge dels nivells PET (Preliminary) i FCE (First Certificate).

Summer is coming!

Our P4 - P5 students had a lot of fun yesterday. They cut and played a memory game about summer!

Els nostres alumnes de P4 i P5 s'ho van passar molt bé ahir. Van retallar i jugar a un joc de memòria sobre l'estiu!

Healthy Life

Last week our 3rd and 4th of Primary students prepared a portfolio titled "Healthy Life". They did different worksheets in which they learnt new vocabulary on healthy diet and good and bad habits. Look at the result!

La setmana passada els nostres alumnes de 3r i 4t de primària van preparar un dossier titulat "Vida Sana". Els alumnes van fer diferents activitats en les que van aprendre nou vocabulari relacionat amb una dieta sana i bons i mals hàbits.

Saint George's Day

Last Wednesday our students from 3rd and 4th of primary school watched a video about the legend of Saint George and how English people celebrate this day in their country. They then did a worksheet where they wrote the story with their own words! In English of course!

El passat dimecres, els nostres alumnes de 3r i 4t de primària van mirar un vídeo sobre la llegenda de Sant Jordi, i com els anglesos celebren aquest dia al seu país. Després van fer una fitxa en la que van escriure la història de Sant Jordi en les seves pròpies paraules! En anglès, és clar!

 

També aprenem Rus!

Els alumnes de rus estan aprenent l'idioma amb molta rapidesa, i a les classes s'ho passen d'allò més bé fent diverses activitats. En tot el que porten de curs han après diverses coses, tant de l'idioma com dels països i llocs on es parla, i fins i tot han treballat amb llibres en rus. Poc a poc, introdueixen nous coneixements, començant des de l'abecedari, i continuant per escriure el seu nom, o coneixent com es diuen les hores en un idioma cada vegada més popular. I així, pas a pas, amb diferents activitats, llegint diferent informació i gaudint de les classes, aprenen un idioma nou. A continuació hi ha algunes de les activitats i conceptes que han conegut.

Activitats Setmana Santa P3-P4

Abans de marxar de vacances de Setmana Santa, alguns dels nostres alumnes d'anglès del grup de P3 i P4 de dilluns i dimecres a la tarda, van conèixer "The Easter Bunny" (el conillet de Pasqua). Van poder pintar-lo, ballar, i fins i tot, fer-se una fotografia tots junts! S'ho van passar d'allò més bé!

Treballs en anglès de P4 i P5

Last week our P4 and P5 students learnt the jobs in English! This week they have done two funny worksheets about the tools and hats people use in their jobs. They have coloured, cut and glued! Great job! ;)

La setmana passada els alumnes de P4 i P5 van aprendre els oficis en anglès! Aquesta setmana han fet dues fitxes divertides per aprendre les eines i els barrets que cadascú fa servir en el seu ofici. Han pintat, retallat i enganxat! Han fet un bon treball! ;)

Horaris i grups

A l'escola Mare de Déu del Carme oferim classes extraescolars d'anglès i rus, en una gran varietat d'horaris i grups adaptats a les necessitats dels nostres alumnes. Així doncs, s'ofereixen dues possibilitats d'horaris: la franja de migdia, de 14h a 15h, per aquells alumnes que es queden a dinar a l'escola, i la franja de tarda, de 17h a 18h per aquells alumnes que prefereixen aprendre i millorar els idiomes un cop s'ha acabat la jornada escolar. 

Cal destacar, a més a més, que en les diferents franges horàries s'hi inclouen diferents grups de diferents nivells, des de P5 fins a Batxillerat i Cicles Formatius, així com també s'ofereixen classes per adults, això sí, en una franja horària diferent: de 18h a 19h.

A continuació, podeu trobar un horari que inclou els diferents grups i franges horàries que s'ofereixen, per a que us en pugueu fer una idea més clara i triar, si és que encara no ho heu fet, el grup que més us interessi!
